Grant us wisdom

If you watch or read any news, or have been on facebook, twitter or other sites in the past day, you have surely been hearing stories about how people who work for our government, or with our government, or use our government, are affected by the shutdown.  It is sad to see ordinary people bearing the effects of a political squabble (albeit, a big one).  Power can be intoxicating, but leadership, at its best, most faithful, is about service.  At least that’s what Jesus taught.  That’s what I’d like to see.  –ara

Luke 22:24-26

24A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25But he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves.

Prayer

God of wisdom,

Guide the leaders of our government today.

Open their eyes to the ways people across the country are affected by their decisions.

Open their minds to find solutions to the current impasse.

Open their hearts to the needs of all those they serve.

Amen.
