Happy Advent!
Today begins four weeks of preparation, expectation and hope for the coming of Jesus at Bethlehem!
But that’s not all!
In Advent, we also look for Jesus’ return one day, and the final healing of the whole of creation
. . . again, with preparation, expectation and hope.
In the meantime, we look for God’s redeeming, healing, life-giving action in our world.
Where?
In small acts of kindness and compassion.
In life-changing encounters of forgiveness or peace.
In surprising moments of love, healing and self-giving that doubtless have their source in God’s love, healing and self-giving.
Did you see the photo of the New York City cop giving boots and shoes to a homeless, shoeless man last week?
God is there.
Has someone shared a snack, or their expertise, or a laugh you, when they didn’t need to?
God is there.
Did you offer a bit of help to a stranger or acquaintance?
God is there.
Where else can we point to God’s movement and presence in our world?
Watch for moments of kindness, giving, forgiving, healing . . . moments of love.
God is there.

O come, o come, Emmanuel.
Set me free from fears that burden me.
Heal me from brokenness that hinders me.
Comfort me in my struggles.
Fill me with hope and life.
Open my eyes to see your love and compassion in my days.
Help me to notice how you are all around.
Amen.
