Lent 2022 – move

Lent is a time when followers of Jesus examine their lives, seeking ways to move closer to God.  This year, we are inviting you to try a different activity each week and reflect on what you discover.  Watch for a post with a new activity each week on Sunday through Instagram and Facebook and on Tuesday in the Weekly Listserv.

These activities will help us step away from demands and distractions of life. They can help us encounter God and focus on God’s presence. Spending time reaching toward God will touch you in ways you may not anticipate.

Do what works for you

  • There is no right or wrong way to do these activities.
  • You can do them each day, or 2 or 3 three times a week, or just once.  Whatever works for you.
  • Try 5 – 10 minutes each time.  You can do more or less time if you like.
  • Each week, use the questions to guide you in reflecting.  Journaling or blogging is a good way to focus your reflection.  Feel free to share part of your reflection on socials.

Move

We are not just minds and spirits, but also bodies.  Our bodies are gifts from God.  We can connect with God as we move, using our bodies through stretching, dancing, exercising, walking, running, or any movement.

  • Begin with a slow, deep breath.  Continue to notice your breath as you move.
  • As you move, think about the gift that your body is.  Pay attention to how it feels to move. Consider what it means that God creates bodies.  Thank God for your body and its many parts as you move.
  • End with another slow, deep breath.

Afterward, spend a few minutes writing/blogging about the experience. Where did you notice God?  How did intentional movement impact you?  What did you discover?
