There is a comfort in being known. While there are many different kinds of people in our lives, there is something about the ones who truly know us.
Someone who really gets you. Maybe you’ve shared important experiences together, or simply been in one another’s lives for a long time. You may have similar ways of working or joking or seeing the world. You could have been brought together by mutual interests or simply by accident. Maybe they’ve always been in your life. No matter what the circumstances, there is something simply wonderful about a relationship where you are truly seen and known and understood.
The Psalm this week talks about God in these terms. The writer describes God by talking about a connection, a closeness, a knowing, that seems to both empower and comfort.
We are known by God. We are loved and used by God, who comprehends everything about us. Our mistakes don’t disqualify us from connection with God. Rather, we are known and understood, forgiven and given a new beginning each day. We can find comfort and hope in the reassurance that there is nothing God doesn’t realize about us, and still God holds us close.
Peace,
