Thanksgiving Break is just a few days away!
I know that most everyone on campus is glad that the break and the holiday are coming. It will be good to have a little time away from classes. Time away from the regular demands, and for many, time away from campus will bring welcome rest. I’ve heard from several students that all they plan to do over break is eat and catch up on sleep!
A few of my friends on facebook have been posting something they are thankful for each day since November began. As I read their posts each day, it brings to mind things I am thankful for, too:
Dark chocolate.
Clean drinking water.
My husband’s quiet sense of humor.
Blue skies and sunshine (finally).
A phone call from my dad.
Big Bang Theory reruns.
A warm sweater in a chilly room.
Pumpkin ice cream (ok, any ice cream).
Finding $10 in my laundry.
Text message jokes from a friend.
A gentle lick from my dog.
Behind these “things I am grateful for” are the BIG things I am also grateful for:
Life.
A comfortable home in a safe community.
Family who love and support me.
Work that is fullfilling and pays me a living wage.
The health and safety of my family and loved ones.
All these things, big and small, are gifts from God – the source of everything we have and everything we are. In these days leading up to Thanksgiving, join me in offering thanks to God for the things you are grateful for – big or small. You don’t need a long or fancy prayer – just saying thanks is enough. God’s generosity and love is all around us. God’s gifts of life, love, forgiveness, accepance, healing and another chance shape and bless our lives. Thanks be to God! — Alicia
Gracious God,
Thank you.
You are so generous to me.
I am grateful, even when I forget to mention it.
Help me to remember how much you love and bless me.
Thank you.
Amen.
