A child dies from malaria every 45 seconds.
For a long time, the ELCA has been supporting clinics and programs in Africa to provide health care. Now we’re focusing on malaria with a new intensity. Malaria kills 800,000 people each year, most are children under five. That’s a child every 45 seconds.
No child, no person, should die of a disease that is both preventable and treatable. So, we are partnering with the ELCA Malaria Campaign to help as they work to raise $15 million to help prevent, treat and educate communities in Africa about malaria and eliminate deaths from this disease—for good.
Each Sunday evening, Lutheran Campus Ministry and Grace Lutheran Church cooperate in offering an informal worship service at 6 pm for students and community members. Worship music is led by Psalm 151, an ever-changing mix of musically gifted congregation members and Penn State students.
This summer, a group of current and past Psalm 151 members recorded light the fire:Psalm 151, as a fundraiser for the ELCA Malaria Campaign. This cd includes fourteen favorites from 6 pm Worship and two bonus tracks with harp and violin. All music and vocals were done by Psalm 151 members, as well as the artwork and graphics for the cd folder.
The cost is just $10 per cd (plus shipping costs, if needed). Checks Payable to Lutheran Campus Ministry at Penn State with Malaria Campaign in the memo line.
All funds go to the ELCA Malaria Campaign. Your $10 is enough to provide a family with a life-saving insecticide-treated mosquito net, and $50 can provide medicine to help save the lives of 25 people infected with malaria.
