Farewell to Luther House and the University Lutheran Center

After decades of student ministry, the buildings on South Garner Street in State College where Lutheran Campus Ministry at Penn State has held community meals, Jawbone Coffee House, Bible studies and discussions, meetings and where students have lived in intentional Christian community are being torn down.

Luther House and the University Lutheran Center have been places of real ministry and Christian community over the past 40 years, and students, alums, and friends of the ministry are sad to see them go.

On Saturday, July 15th, 2006 a brief Service of Farewell was held on the driveway between the two houses. It was a time for prayer, memories and a chance to visit the buildings one final time.

After asbestos removal was completed, materials from the houses were salvaged by Tri-County Habitat for Humanity and materials saved will be used in the construction of decent, affordable houses or sold to raise money for Habitat.
